Architecture is alive and well?

In life sometimes you have a choice, Manchester Utd vs Barcelona or the AJ Top 100 Practices junket - no contest. The AJ Top 100 celebrates what’s left of the architectural industry, surprisingly it’s alive and there are just a few signs of new life especially towards the end of this year and for 2010. Our table consisted of some unknowns like Ken Livingstone, Ruth Reid (the new RIBA President elect, but of course you all knew that), Paul Finch, a few others and me, still recovering from my nasty ski accident.

I awoke as a student a little worried about my A Levels, but this didn’t matter as I’d just celebrated my first anniversary with my girlfriend. At dinner the evening before, did we talk of our plans for the future? Where would we be living, would we be working (no not us, we were different), would we have children, if so how many?

Us creative chaps are impressed with: Architectural Lego

Lego’s latest range gives everyone the chance to build the world’s greatest urban landmarks.

We all remember building with lego. Okay, it wasn’t technically clever, but it was a tiny bit of creative freedom and childish fun. It wasn’t funny how all my attempts turned out like a dog’s dinner. What was I building? What was I aiming for? I didn’t have a clue. In 1934, exactly three quarters of a century ago a Danish carpenter (Ole Kirk Christiansen) struck upon the idea of making wooden toys in his workshop. Two years later he started a company called Lego.

A defeat of Olympic proportions…

The girls may have flown the flag for CIB when it came to challenging Hamerville at football but we were feeling decidedly less confident about our prospects at the recent ‘Pub Olympics’.  With pool, darts, cribbage and dominos on the cards - our team of six girls / two guys didn’t necessarily offer the skills required (that’s an understatement..)

Every now and then you receive an invitation that is simply too good to turn down. That was very much the case when Local Government News invited us for an afternoon of wine tasting at the 29th London International Wine Fair at London ExCeL in Docklands.
